Hair Trends 2020

Updated: Sep 21, 2020

Although 2020 has seemed like a decade in itself, while simultaneously being a flash before our eyes, it isn’t over!  With social distancing and masks being such a priority today, hair color has become even more of a statement allowing for your personality to shine.  The most popular hair color trends range from soft pastels, to 90’s throwback two toned hair and chunky highlighting, to vibrant reds, dimensional brunettes and almost black.  Whether you are ready for a big change in 2020 or want a subtle twist to your current color, you have options!

Soft Pastel Hair

Pastel hair is soft, subtle and one color this year.  From lilac to bubble gum pink, ashy silver to metallic blue, the perfect shade will surely soften up your whole appearance while tapping into your creative side.  These shades are unique and wash out more quickly than a normal color, however they can also be achieved through and kept fresh with pigmented shampoo/conditioning masks.

Two Tone/ Half & Half

The 90’s and 00’s are back with the two-tone half and half hair color on different sides of the head.  Whether it be opposite colors split down the middle of the head, or the top and bottom colors split, this color technique involves brightening/lightening to one side while the other is darker.  This trend is going to be a favorite for those that like to walk on the adventurous side.

Red Shades Family

You're going to enjoy vibrant red hair everywhere in 2020, and for good reason.  While a vibrant cherry red looks wonderful on anyone with warm undertones, it isn’t the only choice!  From natural strawberry reds to warm copper/gold highlights, rich auburn to bright ruby red tones, red hair is always a head turning color choice.  Reds are a top trend in 2020 and are here to stay. (click Shannons Red hair for our favorite moroccan oil Bordeaux mask to maintain this shade of red)

Chunky Highlights Return

Another flash from the past is chunkier highlights and they are back, but with a bit of a makeover.  The original coloring method of these highlights, combined with modern edge and technique gives an amazing contemporary look; whether it be through more of a natural looking balayage, or more of a bold statement money piece and face framing, either way we are loving it. (Click this cutie and purchase the flat iron that makes this so smooth)

You might be thinking what exactly does mushroom brown hair look like? Don’t worry you're not the only one, but you will want to know what this trendy twist is for brunettes.  Think of a multi-dimensional brunette hue with a neutral color involving subtle shades of browns and grays, just like a mushroom!  This color is not only great for growing out those natural grays, but is also a smoky kick for brunettes. Almost Black

Low maintenance, black hair is trending as a glamorous, sophisticated and sexy shade for 2020.  It looks great at any length, from a pixie cut to a long layered hair style.  This striking color suits all skin tones.  Purple/blue deep shades look fabulous on those with a fair complexion, while inky black compliments beautifully with medium complexions.  Whatever hue of black it may be, from purple to cherry red- you can go for any shade of black and standout with a trending and chic look all year long. (click our picture for the 3 products you need to keep this rich almost black)

You might be asking yourself where your hair stands among the trends, or possibly what direction you want to go with your color.  Whether you dare to play on the side of soft pastel colors and 90’s style of chunkier and two-toned hair, or walk more of a sophisticated classic side with neutral brunette shades to an almost black, you have plenty of fun choices to choose from and we are here to help!

Love,

G and C
